Ho Chi Minh City reveals big plans for New Year, Tet celebrations

The first event is the ‘Ho Chi Minh City – Our Home’ festival, which will take place in the Nguyen Hue pedestrian zone, on Le Loi Boulevard and at Bach Dang Wharf Park in District 1 from Friday to Sunday.

This fest is expected to attract participants from 23 cities around the world that have established relationships with Ho Chi Minh City.

It will also feature the first trumpet music festival in the city.

The southern metropolis will also host the Ho Chi Minh City International Music Festival and the second hot air balloon festive day in the Nguyen Hue pedestrian zone and Thu Thiem 2 Bridge Park in Thu Duc City from December 8 to 11.

The city will welcome the 2023 New Year with a countdown event on the night of December 31 in the Nguyen Hue pedestrian zone and on Le Duan Boulevard.

At 0:00 on January 1, 2023, there will be a 15-minute high-altitude fireworks show near the entrance of the Saigon River Tunnel.

Another major event celebrating Tet holiday, which will begin in the latter half of January, is the decoration of downtown streets and Nguyen Hue Flower Street, which is scheduled to open from 7:00 pm on January 19 to 9:00 pm on January 26 in the Nguyen Hue pedestrian zone.

The 2023 Lunar New Year’s book street festival will open at the same time on Mac Thi Buoi Street, Nguyen Hue Street, and Ngo Duc Ke Street.

Another 15-minute high-altitude fireworks show near the entrance of the Saigon River Tunnel is planned for 0:00 January 22, the first day of the 2023 Lunar New Year.

Other annual events such as the Spring Flower Festival and Tet flower markets are also scheduled.

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture and Sports pledges to ensure public safety and vehicle parking convenience for visitors to these events.

Its plan is pending the approval of the municipal People’s Committee.
