STEAM for Vietnam, the American Centers (under the US Embassy and Consulate in Vietnam) and Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST), announced that the Vietnamese delegation was approved for 20 teams with the opportunity to compete at the world’s largest robotics competition: VEX Robotics World Championship 2023 in Dallas, Texas.

According to the official announcement from Robotics Education and Competition Foundation – the largest and leading non-profit educational organization in the US in organizing tournaments on the VEX Robotics technical platform, for the first time in the history, 20 Vietnamese teams have the opportunity to compete at the VEX Robotics World Championship 2023.

Despite participating for the first time, Vietnam ranks 5th in the number of approved teams to participate in this international arena, behind only the United States, China, Australia and the UK.

Accordingly, the Vietnamese delegation will include 20 teams with 14 teams from the middle school group and 6 from the primary school group.

The VEX Robotics World Championship is the world’s largest VEX Robotics tournament, held annually, bringing together more than 3,000 teams from more than 60 countries around the world to compete in the United States.

To select the best teams to represent Vietnam to compete at 2023 VEX Robotics World Championship, STEAM for Vietnam, American Centers in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City and HUST are organizing the 2023 Vietnam VEX IQ National Robotics Championship.

The 2023 Vietnam VEX IQ National Robotics Championship consists of a primary student group for students aged 12 and under, and a junior student group for students aged 15 and under. It gathers 145 teams, 684 students from 152 primary and secondary schools from 27 provinces across Vietnam.

The national championship will take place on February 26 in Hanoi. It is a large-scale robotics tournament that helps students across the country have hands-on experiences in science, technology, engineering, and math furthering their learning outcomes. It is also expected to facilitate students develop necessary soft skills for the future, such as computational thinking, problem-solving, and teamwork skills.

According to Tran Viet Hung, STEAM for Vietnam Foundation co-founder, for the first time in history, 20 teams of the Vietnamese delegation will officially compete against more than 3,000 other teams around the world at the 2023 VEX Robotics World Championship.

STEAM for Vietnam is delighted that students from all regions of Vietnam are given the opportunity to study and compete with the highest standards and international integration, he said, adding that the experience of competing at the world championships in the US certainly will have a huge impact on awareness and help children gradually gain the essential skills and experience necessary to be able to compete in the global market in the future.

“We hope that the 20 teams participating in 2023 VEX Robotics World Championship for the first time will be a living proof of ‘I can do anything’ mindset to inspire more students to participate in robotics design and programming in Vietnam, the first steps to become engineers in the future,” Hung stressed.
