2023 – Promising Collaboration between Vietnam and France, UNESCO

According to VOV, Senator Jeremy Bacchi, a member of the National Council of the French Communist Party (PCF) and secretary of the PCF organization in Bouches-du-Rhone department, expressed satisfaction with the close ties between the two countries in various fields, including economics and culture. He mentioned that throughout the year, numerous activities were organized to celebrate bilateral relations, further strengthening the friendship and increasing the French people’s understanding of Vietnam’s culture and history. Furthermore, these activities showcased the optimism of the Vietnamese people in achieving their goals.

Francois Corbin, vice president of the Movement of the Enterprises of France (MEDEF) International and chairman of the France – Vietnam Business Council at MEDEF, commended Vietnam for its dynamism and growth in recent years. He stated that with its current growth rate, Vietnam will continue to develop in the coming years.

Corbin highlighted that Vietnam has businesses with effective operations, infrastructure development demands, an expanding middle class, and a strong emphasis on environmental protection and climate change. He expressed French businesses’ desire to strengthen cooperation with Vietnamese firms and leaders, aiming for shared prosperity.

Helene Luc, honorary senator of France and former chairwoman of the France-Vietnam Friendship Association, referenced then-French President Jacques Chirac’s remark during his visit to Vietnam in 2004, where he stated that Vietnam’s voice had touched the hearts of the French people. She added that this sentiment was reiterated by President of the French Senate Gerard Larcher during his visit to Vietnam in 2022. Luc noted that these comments reflect the deep connection between the two countries and expressed her hope for further growth in the friendship.

Jonathan Baker, the chief representative of UNESCO in Vietnam starting next year, emphasized Vietnam’s rich and diverse culture. He recognized UNESCO’s recognition of Vietnam’s tangible and intangible heritage, as well as its geoparks and biosphere reserves. Baker noted that bilateral cooperation potential extends beyond heritage preservation and includes education, science, and environmental sustainability. He highlighted numerous successful educational projects and Vietnam’s active participation in environmental protection, particularly in biodiversity conservation and water resources safeguarding. He expressed his hope that Vietnam, with its impressive economic development, will become a shining example in the region and the world, integrating economic progress with social security, cultural preservation, and environmental protection. Baker also expressed confidence in the successful implementation of cultural, educational, and scientific programs through collaboration between Vietnam and UNESCO.

During a farewell meeting with Permanent Representative of Vietnam to UNESCO Ambassador Le Thi Hong Van on December 4, UNESCO General Director Audrey Azoulay congratulated Vietnam on its election as a member of the World Committee for the 2023-2027 tenure in the Asia-Pacific region with the highest number of votes. Azoulay expressed her confidence in Vietnam as an outstanding example in terms of heritage preservation and promotion. She hoped that Vietnam would continue sharing its experience with other countries.
